Days like these are the reason I love October.
The skies are a foreboding gray, and a tireless wind has blown leaves to the ground in a steady downpour all day. Rain has come, and gone, and come again. It isn’t cold. But the anticipation of cold — the looming threat of winter — has everyone on pins and needles.
There’s a special energy in the earth, as it starts to reclaim that which it gave us in spring and summer.
Days like these are like an everlasting twilight, caught at the turning of the seasons.
I’ve always liked October. It’s my birth month. It feels like home.
Numbers-geek that I am, I got an extra special thrill this year over the fact that it was my thirtieth birthday, and that my birthday is October 3… or 10.3… so, 10 x 3 = 30.
Dorky? Yes. But it made me smile.
The only thing that makes me sad is that my favorite kind of October day, also turned out to be the last October day.
Luckily, I have this song to keep me company for all the other months of the year…
